Water Saving
Devices
Although we think of England and
Wales as wet places, they are also very densely populated, and
demand for water is high. So there is actually less water
available per person here than in drier countries like Spain or
Portugal.
The water that comes out of your tap
is taken from natural stores of water underground (known as
groundwater) or from rivers (often via reservoirs). There is
enough water available for people and the environment under
normal circumstances, but we must all be responsible in the way
we use water. Taking too much from groundwater and rivers will
harm the environment. Therefore we should only use the water we
need, and not waste it.
During the past
two decades the demand for water for our homes, industry and
agriculture has been steadily increasing, resulting in recent
water shortages in some parts of Britain.
Forecasts suggest that this upward trend will continue and this,
together with the effects of global warming and the climatic
uncertainties of the future, increase the need to conserve and
carefully manage our water supplies.
What can be done to conserve water?
It is relatively easy to reduce demand for water in buildings
substantially while maintaining modern hygiene standards.
The first step in water conservation comprises simple and
probably familiar measures such as showering instead of bathing,
turning off taps and maintaining taps and appliances.
The next
step is to install or specify water-efficient appliances.
Green Refurb and water conservation
We offer a range of products which are not only highly water
efficient, but effective, hygienic and very stylish...
- Ultra-efficient toilets.
We have two ranges of toilets from Swedish manufacturer Ifö
Sanitar which set the standard for water-efficient WCs
- Bathrooms and
Sanitaryware
To complement our toilets, we offer the Ifö range of high
quality, stylish basins, bidets and baths.
- Taps and fittings.
We sell two ranges of water saving taps to suit your budget,
as well as flow regulators suitable for domestic and
commercial installations. Water efficient shower head and
flow regulator packages are also available.
- Waterless urinals.
For commercial installations, the airflush urinal is not
only waterless, but unlike other waterless urinals, requires
no replacement cartridges.
- Wall-mounted water butts.
Water butts are the simplest way of conserving water in the
garden. These butts are neat, attractive and save space.
Tax relief on sustainable water technologies
The Water
Technology List, developed and managed by Defra and the
Inland Revenue, in partnership with Envirowise, can help UK
businesses save money in the short and long-term by encouraging
them to invest in technologies and products that reduce water
use and improve water quality. In conjunction with the Enhanced
Capital Allowance (ECA) scheme, this allows businesses to write
off 100% of investments in qualifying technologies and products
against tax in the year of investment. The Ifö Cera ES4,
available from us at Green Refurb, is a qualified product in the
Efficient Toilet category of the
Water
Technology List.
