Rainwater Harvesting

Everyone living in the North of England knows that one of our most plentiful resources is rainwater, so it makes sense to make the most of it.

Each person in the UK uses on average 160 litres of drinking water a day, (230 litres if you factor in the amount that is lost through mains leaks), when in reality only about 90 litres or less per person need to be drinkable.

Rainwater can be used for all outdoor uses: watering the garden, washing cars, cleaning patios, drives and windows, topping up swimming pools, ornamental ponds and hot tubs. With some plumbing alterations, it can also be used inside the house to flush toilets and feed clothes washing machines. Besides saving on drinking water use, rainwater use encourages less build-up of calcium deposits in appliances because its naturally softer. This also results in less water table contamination from detergents as soft water lathers more easily.

You may not always think of it, but tap water, as it needs treating and pumping to your house, creates a carbon footprint too.

Green Refurb Ltd can install all sorts of rainwater harvesting systems from simple garden systems to large scale underground house and garden pumped systems.
